Four engineering professionals started their first rotation for Hardinge’s Global Rotational Engineering Program
ELMIRA, NY (June 30, 2023) – Hardinge’s Global Rotational Engineering Program is an exciting opportunity for engineers to fine tune the engineering skills they develop while obtaining their degree. This rotation provides immersive experiences at multiple Hardinge locations, both nationally and internationally. There are three 8-month rotations that consist of varied assignments within multiple engineering disciplines. Each rotation ends with presentations to senior management, engineering leaders, and other program participants.
The program assignments include:
- Machine Design
- Workholding Design
- Value Engineering
- Supply Chain Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Systems/Applications Engineering
The program participants come from all over the country and world! Throughout the entirety of the program, they work at various locations including Elmira, NY, Elgin, IL, and Goldach, Switzerland; to name a few. Plyush Basutkar and Robert Walker have been based in Elmira, NY for their first rotation and Evan Cohoon and Mohmaed Sadik have been placed in Elgin, IL. They are excited for this opportunity and look forward to the future opportunities this program has to offer. We spoke with our program participants and here’s what they had to say.
“I would like to learn how a machine is built, from concept generation to final delivery, and how multiple components are put together to make a fully functional product. I am new to the US, and I get to explore the country through this program. Added Mohamed Sadik, a Penn State Industrial Engineering masters graduate.
We asked Piyush Basutkar, a Clemson University graduate, originally from India, why he chose Hardinge’s Rotational Program; “I decided to come to Hardinge for its high degree of pure mechanical work that is the machine tool manufacturing as well as Workholding solutions. The Engineering Rotational Program is set in a way where I get to work in the major divisions around mechanical engineering and see where I can make the most positive impact, which is better than anything for a fresh graduate like me.” Robert Walker states, “The reason I chose Hardinge is because of the opportunity the rotational program gives for learning many aspects of the machine tool industry.”
Evan Cohoon is a recent graduate from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Originally from Maryland, Evan found his passion for mechanical design as he became more involved in the Formula Racing team at RIT where he was responsible for making various CNC parts for the team on the Hardinge 3-axis CNC mill.
We spoke with Evan about what he hopes to get out of this program. “Throughout this program, I’m hoping to hone my skills on machine design to improve manufacturing technologies and create more efficient machines in terms of output, serviceability, manufacturability, reliability, and more.
