El Director of Engineering – Turning & Milling will be responsible for leading a global team of engineers in the development y life cycle management of market leading Turning & Milling platform s y related system solutions for the Americas and European markets. This position reports to the Vice President & GM of the Turning & Milling (Americas / Europe) business unit and will be an integral part of the business unit leadership team . This position will play a key role in expanding our US engineering presence in both Elmira, NY and Greenville, SC including establishing relationships with key universities and assisting in the developing of an engineering rotational program.

EDUCATION :
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred.
• Minimum of ten years of related experience in engineering management required.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Leads and coordinates engineering functions (mechanical, electrical, software, applications , documen t ation ) to support the design and manufacture of turning and milling machines including research and development for new product concepts and quality assurance, testing, production, y life cycle management of released products .
• Mentors and develops engineers in both “hard” and “soft” skills ( e.g. technical skills, effective communication, time / project management , product cost, mentoring others , etc. ) .
• Facilitates communication among clients/customers and engineers, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood.
• Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
• Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.
• Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
• Prepares and executes departmental and project budget s .
• Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
• Avance as required – approximately 10 % .
DIRECT REPORTS :
• Ten – person development engineering team located in Elmira, NY . The goal is to double the size of this team over the next three years.
• Five-person system automation team with goal of significantly growing in this area.
• Engineering Manager (18 total engineers) located in Taiwan focused on sub-system design .
KEY OBJECTIVES :
• Key strategic and execution leader to drive significant growth of our Turning & Milling business unit through both orga nic & M&A initiatives.
• Create a high – performance engineering team driven by a customer-focused culture that strives for excellence and the desire to “win every day” .
• Key leader in building a rotational engineering program including developing relationships at key universities and defining the structure and execution of the program.
• Work collaboratively across other engineering teams at Hardinge ( Grinding based in St. Gallen, Switzerland ; Honing based in Ashland, OH ; Workholding based in Elmira NY and Traverse City, Michigan ) to promote innovation and best-practices across product lines .
• Assist in the due diligence of technologies / companies as part of the business unit and company’s M&A strategy .
• Develop a strong R&D Department based out of a new facility in Greenville, SC helping to develop and drive an industry leading roadmap of new technologies.
